Our client — a professional couple with a young family — wanted a spacious and functional addition to their home, with a contemporary feel, modern finishes and clean lines. A warm and inviting interior was created using raw materials of timber and polished concrete, contrasts with a stark, modern masonry clad exterior; expertly designed by Mathew Morse Architects and constructed by Smedts to minimise impact on the existing residence.

An open link between the interior lounge and outdoor entertaining area has resulted in a transitional, open living space for the young family.

This all-inclusive project, designed by Designers By Nature, provided us with an opportunity to show off what Smedts can really do. An immaculate attention to detail has been paid to every aspect of this home, inside and out, with the finest quality materials specifically sourced for the job, including Calacatta Marble and powder coated cedar timber shutters.

A light masonry weather board exterior cleverly matched with solid charcoal block work creates a unique sense of both grandeur and warmth before you enter the home. Inside, a focus on space is evident in every area with a flow created by a minimalist colour palette, high ceilings and polished concrete floors. This continues to the outside entertaining area, where polished concrete paving surrounds the fully tiled pool and spa, and frameless glass divides.

To finish off the project Smedts designed and constructed landscaping to compliment the dwelling and it’s combination of materials.

An interstate client contacted Smedts to work on this project, wanting an easy-going yet capable builder they could trust to make their vision a successful reality. The result of this trusting relationship is a home that is completely unique to the area — an intriguing structure on an interesting block.

The environmental impact of the construction was a considered factor, with eco design features such as solar panels, tank water, passive solar design and hebel internal thermal walls applied by our team. Natural spotted gum timber and galvanised iron cladding give this Designers By Nature designed home an environmental look, which works harmoniously with the eco features of the construction.

Being a block at risk of flood, we were challenged to create a structure that was adequately supported, and expertly drove pilings into solid rock to solve this problem.

This large Chris Steel designed family home was made for entertaining. High ceilings and highlight windows create a seamless connection to the huge outdoor entertaining spaces, which feature a pool and spa built by the Smedts team, and suspended under cover areas.

An interesting combination of materials and finishes, such as masonry express wall cladding, West Australian sandstone & rendered brick work, cleverly relate this dwelling to it's natural surrounds.

The rural setting of this spacious family home inspired the use of natural materials and finishes such as West Australian sandstone, stained timber cladding, polished timber floor boards and anodized aluminium windows.

Maximising natural light drove the positioning of the home and entertaining areas to provide a warm and relaxing environment for the farming family year round.

We worked with Studio Osk Architects to renovate the central Warrnambool home of a busy professional couple. Working while the client continued to live in the home meant committing to a short time frame so we could minimally impact out clients lifestyle.

The renovation included refurbishing windows, constructing a new kitchen, staircase and two new bathrooms, and the installation of recycled baltic pine floorboards — a range of expertly finished features all carried out to the highest standard of quality by the capable Smedts team.
